Edinburgh Festival Fringe: Scotland - August

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 3rd - 25 August

Internationally renowned, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest arts festival in the world. With 20,000 individual perfomers decending on the Scottish captial, Edinburgh becomes an art explosion of dancers, actors, jugglers, lion tamers, magicians, and anything imaginable and possible.

Edinburgh is the stage. Churches through to cafes, through to open fields, through to the twisting & winding cobblestone lanes off the Royal Mile, and the haunting Grey Friars Cemetary. Stories of murders, deceit, and plague, lurk in the cold darkness of the Edinburgh Vaults, while bright and lively markets up above on Royal Mile bustle with action.

Great Scottish set plays, such as Macbeth, will take you walking with witches, murders, kings and queens, through the ancient old town, up and down lanes, and behind gravestones & greenery. Mind the daggers! You will be dragged into participation by the magicians and contortionists, and ridiculed on stage by comedians.

The best part about the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to really enjoy yourself. The majority of the tickets are inexpensive and the most amazing street theatre you will ever see will only set you back a donation to the performer. Performers are not paid to participate in the festival!

The bustling of the city during August can be overwhelming, and a vigourous climb up Aurthur’s Seat will definitely give you some quality peace and time to enjoy the panoramic views extending out over Edinburgh city and across the Firth of Forth. Breathing the clean air engerises you to wander down again to the city and sit at the numerous sidewalk cafes, watching the festival go by.

Besides all of this, Edinburgh is the gateway to the Scottish experience. The unique tartan, celtic myths, and men in kilts, ah.. what can I say? The wild Celidhs at the local brewery that will spin you around for hours, the taste of a good haggis and a deep fried Mars Bar, and of course the good old fashion generous Scottish hospitality.
